Skiing Vocabulary for Students
People have been travelling over snow for thousands of years. Every winter people all over the world go to the mountains to skit recreational skiing is relatively a new activity. In 1849 the first public «ski tour» was organized in Trondheim, Norway, and by 1868 mountain resorts had become commercially popular because city-dwellers could reach them in the winter by train, but the first skiing in the Pyrenees didn’t take place until January 29, 1901 at La Llagonne (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). The first rope tow was introduced in 1910 and in 1936, the first chair lift was used at Sun Valley, Idaho. Though modern skiing was started in Norway, English is its official language.
